Bryan O. Buckley, DrPH, MPH a health equity-focused and systems-oriented leader in health delivery system redesign, performance improvement, and change management. He has 10+ years of success applying various performance improvement, leadership, strategy, and change management methodologies across the public health and healthcare sector. He has developed skills in various performance improvement and change management methodologies, including Lean Healthcare, Six Sigma Green Belt, TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer, human factors design, and high reliability. Through this training, he has significant experience creating and leading diverse teams to advance where people live, work and play. Dr. Buckley has contributed to various statewide, regional and national patient safety and quality initiatives. He has worked with healthcare providers across the continuum of care. 

Currently, Dr. Buckley is the Director for Health Equity Initiatives at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), where he supports NCQA’s Health Equity strategy across multiple departments to better integrate health equity concepts into existing programs and projects. Before NCQA, Dr. Buckley was a Research Fellow with Medstar Health’s Institute for Quality and Safety (MIQS), where he led and supported healthcare delivery research, education, and consulting related to community health, patient safety, and quality. Dr. Buckley serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he teaches in the Georgetown Executive master's in clinical quality, safety & leadership. In addition, he is on the faculty team teaching clinical transformation and community partnerships to medical students and is an Associate Member of the Georgetown University Medical Center Teaching Academy for the Health Science, developing course curriculums through change management and an equity lens.

Dr. Buckley has been an active member of APHA. He has served as a Board Member of the Black Caucus of Health Workers; Early Career Professional representative of the Council of Affiliates; Action Board representative, Governing Councilor, Policy Committee Chair, and Section Chair for the Community Health Planning & Policy Development Section. In addition to the CHPPD Section, he is a proud member of the Health Administration Section. He has been a member of the Michigan Public Health Association and Massachusetts Public Health Association. He is currently a member of the Maryland Public Health Association. 

Dr. Buckley holds a Doctor of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, a Master of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. He is a Board Member of the American Heart Association Greater Washington Region; Food & Friends; and Founding Executive Board Member of the DrPH Coalition. In addition, he serves on the Advisory Board for the Michigan State University & Grand Valley State University MPH programs.

 

Dr. Buckley was born and raised in Maryland and is a first-generation American citizen with immigrant parents from Antigua & Barbuda. He is the recipient of the APHA Health Administration Rising Star Award. The 2020 Alumni Class President of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he serves as a Councilor on the Alumni Association and Dean’s Advisory Committee and Diversity and Inclusion. One of Dr. Buckley's proudest public health initiatives is working with Michigan State University to transition it to a tobacco and smoke-free campus as an inaugural member of the Tobacco-Free Taskforce.
